Landscape Design by Danny Butch
Danny's interest in landscape developed further when at 22, he attended the University of Perugia where he studied Italian language, arts and culture, and traveled extensively, seeking out gardens and museums across Europe. His passion for garden design has taken him throughout South America, Mexico, Morocco, and Southeast Asia Asia.
He graduated from the landscape architecture program at the University of California at Irvine where he served as president of the UCI American Society of Landscape Architecture Student Association. During his education, and for three years after his graduation, he worked as a project manager with Fong and Associates, a leading landscape architecture firm in Orange County, California. While there, he assisted with the design and management of a variety of projects, including the John Wayne Memorial Cancer Center at Hoag Hospital, the redesign and study of the Los Angeles Airport, the C.L. Keck Memorial Theater for Performing Arts, and The Wilshire Courtyards Complex in Los Angeles.
In 1999, he opened Danny Butch Design. His collaboration with the Kor Group and
O & S Holdings led to projects that ranged from high-end residential clients such as Francis Ford Coppola, Sofia Coppola, Spike Jonze and Rupert Sanders, to the Viceroy Hotel in Palm Springs, the remodel of the Delfina Hotel in Santa Monica, and the Sheraton Gateway Hotel in Los Angeles
Danny's diverse design background includes working as a production designer, set decorator and greensman in the film and television industry. He has designed and supervised hundreds of projects including commercial campaigns for Coca Cola, Verizon, Mercedes Benz and Samsung. He was honored with two "Best Art Direction" awards from the Art Directors Guild of America for his work on Bjork's "Bachelorette" music video, and the "___" commercial for Wii.
As a production designer and set decorator, Danny is not only responsible for all design elements but also hiring and managing crew and support staff, scheduling and organizing the art department, bidding, budgeting, and coordinating with the overall production.
Danny continues to work as a set decorator, and is currently working on landscape design projects, most recently collaborating with interior designer Kelly Wearstler.
